411 N. Wright Street - Special Use Permit - Commissary Kitchen

The City of Champaign Planning and Development Department has received an application for Special Use Permit to allow a Commissary Kitchen in a MF2, Medium Density Multi-family Residential. The site is the former location of McCabe Tools. The Commissary Kitchen would allow Food Truck operators to have a commercial graded kitchen that has been approved by the Public Health District, where the operator can prepare their food for the day before they sell it from the food truck. The kitchen would allow up to two food trucks at any one time prepare for their next shift. Commissary Kitchens are not normally allowed in the MF2 Zoning District, but because this site is an existing commercial building it would be an adaptive re-use of the building.

The Champaign Plan Commission will hold a public hearing at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in the City Council Chambers located at 102 North Neil Street, Champaign to hear the proposal and to co nsider any input and comments from neighbors. The public is invited to attend the meeting to provide input and ask questions.
