Anne asked 22 days agoThank you for your great question. Champaign Public Works regularly sweep streets in a methodical way to cover the entire City; however, there isn’t a fixed schedule. Instead, they adjust their sweeping dynamically based on several factors, including:
- Seasonal Changes: For example, they may conduct all-day sweeping in the fall to better manage fallen leaves, especially in areas with lots of mature trees.
- Special Event Needs: Areas near special events (i.e. parade and marathon routes) may require additional sweeping before and after in order to maintain safety and cleanliness.
- Priority Needs: Crews may be redirected to other priorities to best meet the immediate needs of the community.
Unfortunately, this means Public Works cannot provide specific times for when residents should move their vehicles for street sweeping. If residents notice an immediate need for street sweeping in their area, please call Public Works (217-403-4700) so they can add that area for a follow-up visit.

Share I understand that street projects have to get completed but why are you working on curb cuts on Duncan/ John intersection while Springfield is closed. John is the only thru street that is close. It would have been good to wait until Springfield is complete to do these in this location on Facebook Share I understand that street projects have to get completed but why are you working on curb cuts on Duncan/ John intersection while Springfield is closed. kray asked 3 months agoHello kray and thanks for your question. The IDOT construction project on Springfield Ave. was scheduled to begin in April and the City’s project on Duncan Rd. was scheduled to begin in August (2024). IDOT’s project was subsequently delayed due to an Ameren gas main that took several months to resolve, but the City's project stayed on schedule. Therefore the two construction projects ended up overlapping.
